Thy Kingdom Come is a global prayer movement, which invites Christians around the world to pray between Ascension (May 10) and Pentecost (May 20) for more people to come to know Jesus Christ. From small beginnings it has grown into an international and ecumenical call to prayer.
The hope is that people will commit to pray with God's world-wide family – as a church, individually or as a family and that people will be empowered by the Holy Spirit to find new confidence to be witnesses for Jesus Christ.
What you can do:
Take up the challenge to pray for five people between Ascension Day and Pentecost Sunday (Thursday May 10 ' Sunday May 20, 2018):
Praying for others to know Jesus is one of the most powerful things we can do. Persistent prayer for others brings transformation to their lives.
Consistently praying for others takes discipline, and there are many ways that we can build up habits that will help us to pray for our friends and family.
Choose five people you would like to pray for and write their names down onto a list. If you're not sure who to pray for, ask God to guide you as you choose. Once you have settled on five names, commit to praying for them by praying the following:
in the face of Jesus Christ
your light and glory have blazed forth.
Send your Holy Spirit that I may share with my friends [here, name your friends]
the life of your Son and your love for all.
Strengthen me as a witness to that love
as I pledge to pray for them,
for your name's sake. Amen
Extracts from Acts 1 and 2
"You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses 'to the ends of the earth. When he had said this'he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight'Then they returned to Jerusalem ' and were constantly devoting themselves to prayer'
When the day of Pentecost had come they were all together in one place… All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit… and that day about three thousand persons were added.”
