Lowestoft pupils receive prizes in painting competitions

Pupils at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Lowestoft have received prizes after submitting winning entries for two painting competitions run by the Knights of St Columba.

On May 10, Year 2 pupil Lola Tomlinson received a national award certificate and £30 for first place in the whole country at KS1 for the Nativity Scene 2018-2019 competition.

“The eyes of the children in Friday assembly lit up when this was announced,” said Bro Chris Brooks who was making the presentation, along with Bro Jason Wickard.

Lola then presented the headteacher with a £200 cheque from the Knights for the winning school, which was gratefully received.

Three other St Mary’s pupils also won regional prizes in the Key Stage 2 category from the Lowestoft Council 518 and from the East Anglia Province 27

They were First – Alyssa de Pina – Yr 5 (£8 award), Second – Indiarna McComb – Yr 5 (£5), Third – Saimaya – Yr 5 (£3).

They were also presented with their awards on May 10 and the winning entry by Alyssa de Pina has been sent to Head Office for national adjudication.

There are two current KSC Youth competitions running until September, namely: Prayer Writing and Essay Writing. Details have been sent to schools but any parish family interested can enter by contacting PPGK Bro Chris Brooks by July 12, on 01502 563208.
