New Catholic bishops book briefly covers East Anglia

If you want to know anything about any Catholic bishop in Great Britain over the past 165 years, Catholic Bishops of Great Britain ' 1850 to 2015, is your starting point.

A weighty tome, it says it is a comprehensive reference guide to over 300 bishops who have given their life in service to the church.

In its 380 pages, just two are dedicated to the Diocese of East Anglia and its four bishops, Rt Rev Dr Alan Clark, Rt Rev Dr Peter Smith, Rt Rev Michael Evans and Rt Rev Alan Hopes.

It also includes contact details of all serving bishops, a chronological listing of significant episcopal events and indexes of titular sees and cardinal titles.

It will be of most interest to diocesan archivists and yearbook editors and presents the information as completely, concisely and consistently as possible.

In a foreword, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor, Archbishop Emeritus of Westminster, says: "The names of our bishops are to be found in so many local places: in parish histories, on foundation stones, in portraits and in so many memories and retold stories. This book gathers much of that information together, bringing into one volume the briefest details of those many shepherds who have worked among the flock in these lands."

Written by Chris Larsen, Catholic Bishops of Great Britain – A Reference to Roman Catholic Bishops from 1850 to 2015, is published by Sacristy Press and, at £55, can be ordered online.
