Filipino community in Sawston reunites after decades

The Filipino community in Sawston has had its first gathering since the mid-2000s when they started living in the village. Nieva Cortez reports.

Father John Minh of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish opened the celebration with his welcome speech and a thanksgiving prayer. As part of getting to know each other, each family introduced themselves and shared thoughts on their experiences living in Sawston. Many different foods were shared and enjoyed. Young and old alike participated and joined in games, ending in lots of fun and laughter! And, as a typical Filipino party would go, there was karaoke to showcase the Filipino love for singing.

The gathering, hopefully the first of many, was a celebration of belonging, sharing, and friendship from a culture finding a home away from home. The party ended with a promise of new friendships, a renewed sense of community, and fellowship.
