People across East Anglia are warmly invited to take part in St Benedict Week 2026, a unique opportunity to explore the wisdom of the Benedictine tradition and discover how a simple Rule of Life can help shape daily living.
Taking place in Norwich on 17–18 July 2026, the event is organised by the Lay Community of St Benedict (LCSB) and forms part of a wider preparation for the 2029 Jubilee Benedictine celebrations, marking 1,500 years since the foundation of Montecassino by St Benedict. The theme for 2026 is “Awaken!”, with the Study Day focusing on “Awaken with a Rule of Life”.
The programme begins on Friday 17 July with a visit to the major exhibition Living by the Rule at the Sainsbury Centre, University of East Anglia. Participants will hear from the exhibition’s curators before enjoying a private reception hosted by the Bishop of East Anglia, Bishop Peter Collins.
The main Study Day takes place on Saturday 18 July in the historic setting of Norwich Cathedral. Speakers include Benedictine abbots, monks, abbesses and lay Benedictines from across the country, exploring themes of prayer, discipleship, community, vocation and living a Rule of Life in the modern world. The day concludes with Evensong in the Cathedral.
Among the highlights of the weekend is the exhibition Living by the Rule, which brings together remarkable medieval manuscripts, artefacts and contemporary artworks to explore the enduring influence of the Rule of St Benedict and its relevance for society today.
