The RCDEA Catechist Formation Day, taking place from 9am to 4pm at Sacred Heart and St Oswald’s, Lincoln Road, Walton, will offer practical and spiritual support for those involved in handing on the faith to people of all ages.
The day will begin with registration and networking, followed by Mass with the parish community. Participants will then enjoy a varied programme of talks and workshops focused on catechesis and faith formation.
Karen Sullivan King will lead a session on Godly Play, exploring creative and engaging ways of presenting Scripture and helping people encounter God through storytelling. Fr Hendrix will then share reflections drawn from more than 50 years of priesthood and catechetical ministry, offering insights from his extensive experience of teaching and accompanying people in the faith.
The programme will also include a safeguarding workshop and a session on Encountering the Word with Ignatius, helping catechists deepen their understanding of Scripture and discover new ways to share the Gospel with catechumens and parishioners.
Organisers describe the event as the third diocesan day of formation, providing an opportunity to explore effective approaches to presenting and explaining the Word of God while meeting and learning from fellow catechists across the Diocese.
Lunch will be provided by the parish of Sacred Heart and St Oswald’s.
Anyone wishing to attend is asked to RSVP as soon as possible by emailing Jo Graham at stjohnfhc@gmail.com and indicating any dietary requirements.
The day promises to be a valuable opportunity for catechists to grow in confidence, deepen their faith and renew their commitment to the Church’s mission of evangelisation and formation.
