Taking place on Saturday 3 October 2026 at 2.30pm in the Sunken Chapel at St John the Baptist Cathedral, Norwich, the event will commemorate the Transitus – the passing of St Francis from earthly life to his heavenly home.
To mark this significant anniversary, the Secular Franciscans will present a short play in the form of a wake. Those attending will meet companions of St Francis, portrayed by members of the fraternity, as they share memories and stories of the saint’s life, offering an engaging insight into the man whose witness continues to inspire Christians around the world.
Described as an opportunity to get to know the Church’s beloved patron saint of creation better, the event is free to attend and open to everyone.
Refreshments will be served in the cathedral hall from 3.30pm, giving visitors the opportunity to meet the performers, ask questions and learn more about the life and spirituality of St Francis.
The afternoon will conclude with a Franciscan liturgical celebration of the Transitus, commemorating St Francis’ passing from life to death and his entry into eternal life.
