A Fond Farewell to Fr Anthony Asomugha

Parishioners at St Edmund King and Martyr in Bury St Edmunds gathered on 31 July to bid a fond farewell to Fr Anthony Asomugha, who has moved to take up a new appointment at the Cathedral of St John the Baptist in Norwich.

Though Fr Anthony spent just one year in the parish, his presence left a lasting impression. Around 70 parishioners attended a special farewell Mass in his honour, which was followed by a gathering in the crypt. There, Mark Shakespeare, Chair of the Parish Pastoral Council, presented Fr Anthony with a monetary gift on behalf of the parish community, and Fr Dick White paid tribute to his ministry.

Fr Anthony’s gentle and compassionate nature endeared him to all. He was particularly admired for his dedicated work with young people and for encouraging and increasing the number of altar servers — an area in which his influence will be remembered fondly.

The parish community of Bury St Edmunds gives heartfelt thanks for Fr Anthony’s time among them and wishes him every blessing in his ministry at the Cathedral. He will be greatly missed.
