Bishop Alan to lead Easter celebrations at Cathedral

St John the Baptist Cathedral is making arrangements for everyone to be able to join Easter celebrations led by Bishop Alan, either in person via a booking system or on livestream.

The Congregation for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments has asked that this year there should be a focus on the media coverage of liturgies presided over by the Diocesan Bishop so that those who are “unable to attend their own church should follow the diocesan celebrations as a sign of unity”.

If you would like to attend Mass at St John’s Cathedral on Palm Sunday, the Mass of Chrism, the Easter Triduum, or Easter Sunday, you will need to book online in advance.

The Cathedral’s Holy Week liturgies which require booking are as follows:

  • Palm Sunday: all usual Sunday Mass times
  • Holy Tuesday: Mass of Chrism 12noon
  • Maundy Thursday: Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 8pm
  • Good Friday: there will be two Liturgies of the Lord’s Passion at 1pm and 3pm
  • Holy Saturday: Sacred Paschal Vigil at 8pm
  • Easter Sunday: all usual Sunday Mass times, plus 7.30am and 3pm (Old Rite Latin)

To book to attend any of these Masses please visit www.sjbcathedral.org.uk/booking

If you need to cancel or change a booking you have made online, you can make amendments yourself from your confirmation email.

If you are unable to get to these Masses in person, you can join via the St John’s Cathedral YouTube channel here.
