Bishop meets mayor, Duckett Library, Ipswich grotto

Bishop Alan Hopes recently met with the Metro Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Dr Nik Johnson, to discuss mutual co-operation.

The two covered a range of subjects, including working for the homeless, support of migrant workers and in matters surrounding environmental issues. The private meeting took place at the Bishop’s White House in Poringland near Norwich.

The Duckett Library in St John’s Cathedral will be open on the Heritage Open Days from 10.30 am until 4 pm. The dates are Friday 10 and 17 and Saturday 11 and 18 September.

Normal opening hours will also resume from Sunday September 12 after the 9 am Mass.

At the moment there is an exhibition of books to complement the tours of the fine stained glass in the Cathedral. The library is also selling jams and religious books to raise funds.

On September 9 Bishop Alan made a visit to St Mark’s church Ipswich and blessed the grotto in the presence of Canon Eugene Harkness, Fr Peter Raj and local parishioners. The parish was delighted to welcome the Bishop, who and he gave a message based on the litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
