Celebrating Catholic Education Across the Diocese

Each year, schools from across the Diocese of East Anglia gather at the Cathedral of St John the Baptist for the Annual Schools Mass.

This year’s celebration on 26 September was a joyful and prayerful occasion, uniting pupils, staff and clergy in thanksgiving for the gift of Catholic education.

Presided over by Bishop Peter Collins, the Mass offered a powerful expression of faith and community. It was a moment to reflect on the shared mission of nurturing young people in the love of Christ and helping them to grow in wisdom, compassion and service. The cathedral was filled with joy and reverence as pupils and staff joined together in prayer, celebrating the life and faith that flourish within our diocesan schools.

The Annual Schools Mass stands as a highlight of the diocesan year and a visible sign of the unity of our Catholic school communities. It is an opportunity to recognise the dedication of teachers, leaders, chaplains, governors and support staff, whose tireless commitment ensures that our schools remain places where faith and learning thrive side by side.

Throughout the diocese, Catholic schools continue to play a vital role in helping young people encounter Christ in their daily lives. Rooted in Gospel values, they nurture faith, encourage service to others and inspire pupils to grow into compassionate, responsible and faith-filled individuals.

As the diocesan family gathered in worship, there was a deep sense of gratitude for the many blessings of Catholic education and for all who make it possible. The celebration renewed a shared commitment to placing Christ at the heart of all that we do, ensuring that every young person is supported to live out their faith with joy, confidence and hope for the future.
