Diocese of East Anglia needs a Director of Music

The Diocese of East Anglia is looking to appoint a Director of Music who will have executive oversight of all music-making in the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist and at Diocesan events outside the Cathedral.


The Diocese of East Anglia seeks to appoint an outstanding musician to be the next Director of Music. The position is based at The Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist, Norwich, where the successful candidate will direct the Cathedral Choristers and Schola Cantorum, and have executive oversight for music at all ceremonies and liturgies in the Cathedral and at Diocesan events.

The Diocese of East Anglia is also part of the National Schools Singing Programme, and the successful candidate will be responsible for the further development of singing in Diocesan schools.

Salary £38,000-£43,000

Location The Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist, Norwich

Accountable to Vicar General

Hours 37.5 hours per week, permanent contract

Holidays 28 days per year, to be taken outside term time (plus bank holidays and Curial Office closure days between Christmas and New Year)

Start date January 1, 2024 (or sooner)

Role: The Director of Music has executive oversight of all music-making in the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist and at Diocesan events outside the Cathedral.
