Centred on the theme “Travel Seeking for Life’s Purposes”, the celebration reflected the community’s shared journey of faith and cultural identity.
The afternoon began at 3pm with a special Mass, which held particular significance for many families. Twelve children received their First Holy Communion — a key moment in their spiritual lives — and two new members were welcomed into the Church through the sacrament of Baptism.
The Mass was celebrated by Father João Aparício, a Timorese priest currently based in Rome. His presence brought a special sense of connection, uniting those gathered in Cambridge with their spiritual and cultural roots in Timor-Leste. In his homily, Father Aparício spoke movingly about the search for meaning and purpose that lies at the heart of every Christian journey.
The celebration reflected the vibrancy and unity of the East Timorese Catholic community in Cambridge. It offered families an opportunity to come together, support their children, and renew their shared commitment to faith and community life.
In a message of thanks, ETICC expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the local clergy for their ongoing pastoral care. A spokesperson said:
“We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Father John Ming, Father Robin, and Father Alex. Their kindness and unwavering support have been instrumental in helping our community to flourish, and we are truly thankful for their guidance.”
The event at St Laurence’s was more than a religious ceremony — it stood as a testament to the community’s resilience, unity, and devotion. The chosen theme, “Travel Seeking for Life’s Purposes”, beautifully captured the East Timorese experience: a journey of faith, belonging, and hope, rooted in both their homeland and their life here in Cambridge.
