For Pentecost this year several parish groups that are in regular contact via the parish Facebook site and Whatsapp contributed artwork, prayers and music.
The front of the altar was bedecked with images of the Holy Spirit from the First Communion group, the Catholic Women’s League and some individual parishioners.
And there were some red balloons….well, it the birthday party of the Church.
The confirmation group members delivered the readings. Deacon Stephen Pomeroy, who has been shielding because of the Covid-19 crisis, intoned the Gospel. He pre-recorded a homily, with the theme that the lockdown has given us the opportunity for discernment and listening to the Holy Spirit.
A family prepared and delivered the prayers of the faithful, and the sign of peace involved extra prayers of peace for the world and for those directly affected by the Covid-19 virus.
We sang along to the hymns and Mass setting with the words on the screen for those joining online.
Later, at 2pm, some members of the confirmation group led us in the Prayer at the Rosary with images of the statue of Our Lady holding the Christ child in a boat at Our Lady Star of the Sea.
