New Online Course Supports Catholic Faith Formation

Several years ago, Bishop Alan Hopes commissioned the Margaret Beaufort Institute of Theology to develop a course introducing parishioners and teachers in Catholic schools across the Diocese to the main themes of the national Catholic Certificate in Religious Studies (CCRS).

The Diocesan Certificate in Catholic Studies (DCCS) was successfully delivered for a number of years, enriching the faith formation of many. The original course and its adapting for use via the app was all carried out by Dr Sue Price who works at the Margaret Beaufort Institute.

Recognising the need to update and modernise the programme, Bishop Peter has given his full support to a complete redesign of the course. Working closely with Dr Andy Stone, Diocesan Schools Commissioner, and the team at Anspear, the DCCS has been reimagined into an accessible, fully online format.

The new Introduction to Catholic Certificate in Studies (ICCS) course is already proving highly successful. It is being used to support teachers who are new to working in Catholic schools, catechists preparing children and families for the sacraments, parents who wish to deepen their own understanding of the faith, and anyone interested in exploring Catholic beliefs and practice.

The course comprises five engaging modules:

  • The Bible

  • Living a Moral Life

  • Living a Sacramental Life

  • The Church

  • The Person of Christ

Each module is designed to be completed in about 1.5 hours, making it manageable for busy schedules. The cost of the course is £18 per person, with discounts available for parishes or schools purchasing multiple licences.

This initiative represents a significant step forward in making high-quality Catholic education more widely available across the Diocese of East Anglia, supporting the mission to form disciples who are confident in their faith and able to share it with others.
