Radio Maria celebrates 4th anniversary in the UK

Radio Maria England marked its 4th anniversary with a special celebration in Cambridge, featuring Eucharistic Adoration, Rosary prayer, Holy Mass, and a festive reception. Helena Judd reports.

Radio Maria England celebrated their 4th anniversary of broadcasting in the UK on Thursday October 26, with Eucharistic Adoration, Praying the Rosary, Holy Mass, and a reception at Our Lady of the Assumption and English Martyrs Church in Cambridge.

Bishop Emeritus Alan Hopes presided over Mass, with Radio Maria’s Priest-Director, Fr Toby Lees, co-celebrating.

Radio Maria England began broadcasting on  November 1, 2019. It is a 24-hour Catholic Radio Station dedicated to airing programmes that promote and express the Christian Faith.

Its primary goal is to provide support to Catholics and others on their spiritual journeys whilst offering insight to those interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith.

Radio Maria England is part of the World Family of Radio Maria formed in 1998 in response to the apparitions and messages of Our Lady in Medjugorje and Fatima. Globally, there are almost 100 Radio Maria stations around the world.

Radio Maria England’s priest director, Fr Toby Lees, said, “As a priest, it’s a privilege to have this platform to preach the Good News into people’s cars, homes, and places of work. Giving a voice to many talented, faith-filled people both in this country and overseas is an honour. It’s also a privilege to hear from an increasing number of people whose lives are being transformed and nourished by this radio. The mission of Radio Maria is to share in the mission of Mary, our Mother, by saying ‘yes’ to God so that the whole world might come to know her Son. We aim to ponder all that Jesus has said in our hearts and to pass on that wisdom to those who might otherwise be ‘like sheep without a shepherd’ (Matthew 9:36).

During the adoration and prayers, Radio Maria volunteers led the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary. Bishop Alan was delighted to celebrate Mass as he was instrumental in helping Radio Maria begin in his Diocese of East Anglia in 2019.

Bishop Peter Collins, the current Bishop of East Anglia, sent his regrets and an audio blessing to Radio Maria, which was broadcast on-air.

Over a hundred volunteers and listeners attended from across Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, and Norfolk for the evening’s celebrations.
