The gardens of St Edmund King & Martyr Church and Presbytery in Bury St Edmunds welcomed visitors as part of this year’s St Nicholas Hospice Hidden Gardens Trail, helping to raise funds for the local hospice.
The annual event featured 29 gardens across the area. Visitors purchased tickets to explore the participating gardens, with this year’s trail raising an impressive £22,000 for St Nicholas Hospice.
At St Edmund’s, parishioners provided refreshments, sold homemade cakes and plants, displayed the parish’s historic vestments, and welcomed visitors with live music performed by an octet in the garden.
The event was the culmination of months of preparation by members of the parish community. Work began early in the year to ensure the gardens were ready to receive visitors, with volunteers pruning, weeding, planting and watering throughout the season.
Parishioners also undertook a number of improvement projects, including spreading four tonnes of gravel over a former decking area, repairing shed doors, installing a water butt, and clearing a large quantity of garden waste.
The successful day not only supported the vital work of St Nicholas Hospice but also showcased the beauty of the parish grounds and the dedication of the volunteers whose hard work made the event possible.
