St John’s Cathedral seeks volunteers to be parish links

The friends of St John’s Cathedral are seeking to build stronger relations with parishes and are looking for volunteers for this liaison role.

They would be delighted for someone in each parish to volunteer to make this link with the Cathedral. This would enable them to keep parishes informed of relevant events and perhaps even arrange for a periodic group visit of parishioners to attend and get involved in one of the Cathedral services.

Those interested might like to note that the Friends AGM will follow 11am Sunday Mass at the Cathedral on October 23 and will be held in the Narthex at 12.15pm.

“We all have a strong bond with our local parish,” writes Jonathan Ellis from the Friends of St John’s Cathedral. “But how many have been to the Diocese of East Anglia Cathedral in Norwich? It is well worth a visit: apart from the delights of the Cathedral, there is the shop and the café (in its beautiful garden setting), also tower tours have reopened and these offer spectacular views.”

The Friends of the Cathedral have made two important contributions in the last couple of years: the refurbishment of an altar and the over-hanging crucifix for the Chapel of the Precious Blood and most recently the acquisition of a new portable organ. The latter is a welcome back-up to the existing instrument and provides greater flexibility when it comes to concerts and other events.
