Statement regarding Fr Dennis Finbow

Fr Dennis Finbow, a retired priest of the Diocese of East Anglia, was recently charged by officers from Cambridgeshire Police, with five non-recent child sexual abuse offences and appeared at Peterborough Crown Court on April 6.

Fr Finbow formally entered pleas of Not Guilty to five counts of non-recent child sexual abuse in respect of two alleged victims.  A trial date has been set for January 23, 2023 and he was released on unconditional bail to appear at his trial.

Fr Finbow has been retired and not in active ministry since 2001.  Prior to his retirement he had served in parishes in Peterborough and St Neots, Cambridgeshire.

The Rt Rev Alan Hopes, Bishop of East Anglia, affirmed: “The safeguarding of children and vulnerable people is of paramount importance to the Catholic Church and the Diocese is co-operating fully with the police in this investigation.  Our thoughts and prayers are with all involved in the investigation.”

As court proceedings are now underway it would not be appropriate to make any further comment at this time.
