SVP Pilgrims Gather at Walsingham

The SVP National Pilgrimage for the Sick took place at the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham on 5 July, bringing together more than 600 Vincentians from across the country.

Pilgrims gathered in prayer at the shrine, meeting old friends and making new ones. The day began with picnic lunches enjoyed al fresco in the beautiful grounds of the shrine. Although it was a very hot day, marking the start of the third heatwave, pilgrims were blessed with a cool breeze and cloud cover.

Mass began at 2pm and was concelebrated by a number of priests. During Mass, the Sacrament of the Sick was administered. This year’s principal celebrant was Fr Eugene Curran, the SVP Spiritual Adviser, who spoke movingly about the work of the SVP.

During the day, a long service award was presented to Carolyn Donaldson from the King’s Lynn Conference. Following a short break, the pilgrimage concluded with Benediction at 4pm, finishing at around 4.30pm.

SVP pilgrimages are always joyful occasions, and this year was no exception. There was a wonderful atmosphere of friendship and love, which is always present when Vincentians gather together. Everyone enjoyed the day and returned to their parishes with the peace of Walsingham in their hearts, already looking forward to next year’s pilgrimage.
