Soon To Be Born is now available on Spotify, iTunes and most other streaming services.
Hamish originally wrote the song several years ago for use in primary schools and online assemblies during Advent. He explained the inspiration behind the track:
“I wanted to do an upbeat song about Advent but there are not many written. So I thought I better write something myself! Of course there a lot of upbeat songs about Christmas and quite a few more reflective songs about Advent but not many upbeat Advent songs. So I wrote ‘Soon to be born’ with the music using every Christmas song cliché I could, but the lyrics are very much about Advent.
One of the things I love about our Catholic understanding of Advent is that it is a time of great excitement and anticipation as we wait and get ready for Christmas, and I wanted the song to help make the distinction between Advent and Christmas. It seems a lot of people start celebrating Christmas at the beginning of December (or before!) and then stop around Boxing Day…. they are missing out! We have the excitement of Advent AND the celebration of Christmas, with Christmas lasting eight days, and the Christmas Season lasting until the feast of Jesus’ baptism (the Sunday after Epiphany) so the celebrations continue way beyond December 25!”
Alongside this latest release, Hamish already has several other tracks available on streaming services. The Ignite Team’s YouTube channel also features lyric videos and singalong backing tracks for parish and school use.
He hopes to continue sharing new music in the coming years, with plans to add more songs in 2026.
For those looking to bring a spirit of anticipation and joy into the season, Hamish’s newest track is ready to uplift Advent celebrations across the diocese and beyond.
