Weekend Retreat For Women Age 18 – 35

The Diocesan Youth Service is organising a weekend retreat in York (6-8 March 2026) for women aged 18-35. It is a great opportunity to go on retreat during Lent. Come and join us!

Why York?
York has a magnificent Catholic heritage with a Catholic women’s history to focus the weekend around. These include Saint Margaret Clitherow and Venerable Mary Ward and the continuing presence of the Congregation of Jesus.

Is transport included?
We are asking people to make their own way to York and back but once we know which parts of East Anglia people are travelling from, we may be able to coordinate lifts. The journey is part of the experience!

Where will we be staying?
We will stay at the Bar Convent, York which is run as a guesthouse by the Congregation of Jesus.

What would the retreat’s programme include?
Friday: Arrivals at the Bar Convent, Supper, Night Prayer

Saturday: Morning Prayer,  Breakfast, Visit to the Bar Convent Exhibition, Walk to St Margaret Clitherow’s shrine, Guided tour of York Minster focussing on Catholic elements and women connected to the cathedral, Free time in the city, Supper, Evening Reflection, Night prayer
Sunday: Morning Prayer, Breakfast, Walk to local Catholic parish for Sunday Mass, Lunch, Departures.
Please note there will be quite a bit of walking involved!

Who is Leading the retreat?
The retreat is led by Rebecca Bretherton, Evangelisation Co-ordinator for the Diocese and Hamish MacQueen, Director of Youth Service for the Diocese.

How much does it cost?
£145 (subsidised by the Diocese) This includes accommodation in a shared room (single rooms available for an extra £70),  all food except for Saturday lunch (we’ll grab a sandwich while in the city) and entry to York Minister. If the cost is the only thing stopping you coming, please get in touch – we may be able to help.
