Flame, the largest Catholic youth event in the UK, brought together over 10,000 young people from across the country. For many, it was a powerful moment of renewal and connection within the life of the Church. The day featured uplifting music, engaging talks, and a deeply moving time of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, led by Cardinal Vincent Nichols. A host of dynamic speakers added to the energy and spiritual richness of the day.
The East Anglia group included young people from parishes in St Ives, Ipswich, and Norwich. There was also strong interest from other parts of the diocese – including Cambridge, Newmarket and Bury St Edmunds – but unprecedented demand meant the event sold out weeks in advance.
This year’s theme, Unstoppable, ran throughout the talks and performances, encouraging young Catholics to embrace their identity in Christ and live boldly as witnesses to their faith. Among the keynote speakers was adventurer and TV personality Bear Grylls, who shared, “Faith is part of the adventure – faith is the adventure. It’s a journey… it’s a backbone, a streak of steel, the presence of Jesus beside us in the highs and the lows. It’s fire and life and water, all in one.”
“The experience was so uplifting,” said Simone, 18, from Norwich. “It was amazing to be surrounded by so many young people who share the same faith. I feel so much more connected to the Church now, and I’m inspired to live out my faith in a more meaningful way.”
As Flame 2025 came to a close, attendees left with renewed zeal and a strengthened sense of purpose – ready to be unstoppable in their Catholic faith. For many, it marked a milestone in their spiritual journey and a deepening of their commitment to Christ.
If you weren’t able to attend Flame and are in Year 8 or above, why not come along to our Diocesan Youth Festival? This year it is taking place on 3-4 May at St. Benedict’s School, Bury St. Edmunds.
