Annual Schools’ Mass Fills Cathedral With Joy

More than 600 pupils from schools across the Diocese of East Anglia gathered at the Cathedral of St John the Baptist for the Annual Schools’ Mass.

This year’s celebration, held on Friday 25 September, was a joyful and prayerful occasion, bringing together pupils, staff and clergy from across the diocese in thanksgiving for the gift of Catholic education.

Many of the children arrived early and enjoyed lunch outdoors in the cathedral gardens, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere before the Mass began.

The celebration was led by Bishop Peter Collins and offered a powerful expression of the shared faith and unity of the diocesan schools community. The cathedral was filled with joy and reverence as more than 600 young people joined together in prayer and worship.

A choir of pupils provided the musical accompaniment throughout the Mass, helping to make the celebration especially memorable and reflecting the many gifts and talents nurtured within Catholic schools.

The Annual Schools’ Mass is a highlight of the diocesan year and a visible sign of the unity of Catholic school communities across East Anglia. It provides an opportunity to give thanks for the dedication of teachers, leaders, chaplains, governors and support staff, whose commitment ensures that faith and learning continue to flourish side by side.

Throughout the diocese, Catholic schools play a vital role in helping young people encounter Christ in their daily lives. Rooted in Gospel values, they nurture faith, encourage service to others and inspire pupils to grow into compassionate, responsible and faith-filled individuals.

As the diocesan family gathered at the cathedral, there was a strong sense of gratitude for the many blessings of Catholic education. The celebration renewed the shared commitment of schools across the diocese to place Christ at the heart of all they do and to help every young person live out their faith with joy, confidence and hope.
