Book Celebrates 1,700 Years of the Nicene Creed

A new ecumenical book has emerged from a year of rich theological conversation between Catholics and Anglicans in Ipswich, marking the 1,700th anniversary of the Nicene Creed.

Over the past year, Fr Luke Goymour and the Revd Tom Mumford each hosted a series of conversations in their respective churches, creating space for shared reflection on the Creed that has united Christians across centuries. These gatherings brought together members of both traditions in a spirit of openness and friendship, offering an opportunity to explore the enduring significance of the Nicene Creed in contemporary Christian life.

Out of those discussions has come The Creed in Conversation, a book that captures the questions, insights and relationships that shaped the evenings. The publication reflects not only theological dialogue but also the strengthening of ecumenical bonds at a local level.

The book has received significant encouragement. The foreword has been written by Bishop Peter Collins, while the afterword is contributed by Bishop Anthony Ball, Director of the Anglican Centre in Rome and the Archbishop of Canterbury’s adviser to the Holy See.

The book will be formally launched at Ipswich Minster on Sunday 1 March at 3.30 pm within Choral Evensong. Fr Luke Goymour will preach and the Revd Tom Mumford will officiate.

All are warmly invited to attend this celebration of shared faith and dialogue, which stands as a hopeful sign of growing unity between Christians in East Anglia.
