A special commemorative booklet has been produced by St Felix Church in Felixstowe as part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of East Anglia’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
Entitled Our Cosmopolitan Community by the Sea, the postcard-style booklet reflects on the parish’s rich history and the faith journey of its community over the decades.
Through a collection of illustrated postcards, the publication explores a wide range of themes, including Felixstowe’s diverse ethnic community, the history of St Felix Church, former parish priests, devotion to the Eucharist, the Rosary Window, the work of Stella Maris and other charities, links with the convent in Orwell Road, and the parish’s collaboration with other churches across the town.
The booklet has been produced by a small team of parishioners, whose efforts were acknowledged by parish priest Fr Michael Smith.
In one of the postcards, Fr Michael reflects on the parish’s mission, writing: “The Church (that’s you and me) exists for mission – to bring the light and peace of Christ to all the world. We then in Felixstowe are to be beacons of His light to others through the way we live, by what we say and do.”
The booklet forms part of the parish’s contribution to the Diocese of East Anglia’s Golden Jubilee celebrations, highlighting the history, faith and service that have shaped the Catholic community in Felixstowe over the past 50 years.
