The Parish of Brandon celebrated a joyful First Holy Communion Mass on Saturday, 20 June 2026, as ten young parishioners received the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist for the first time.
The 11am Mass marked an important milestone in the faith journey of Alex, Amelia, Cosette, Diego, Hailee, Isla, Jan, Julia, Logan and Nikola, who had spent six months preparing through the parish’s First Holy Communion programme.
Children aged between seven and twelve took part in a programme running from January to June, during which they deepened their understanding of the Catholic faith, learned their prayers, and explored the life, death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Fr Anil Zachery led the celebration and encouraged the children to continue growing in faith, prayer and love of Christ. During the Mass, the communicants renewed their Baptismal promises, carrying their Baptismal candles to the altar and confidently affirming their faith.
The young people played an active role throughout the liturgy, proclaiming the bidding prayers with enthusiasm and participating in the readings, prayers and hymns. They later received Holy Communion with reverence in a moment that was both moving and memorable for all in attendance.
The church was beautifully decorated for the occasion and filled with families, friends and parishioners from across the community, reflecting the significance of the celebration.
Catechists praised the children for their enthusiasm and commitment throughout the programme, noting their thoughtful questions and eagerness to learn more about God and their Catholic faith.
Special thanks were offered to the parents for their unwavering support, as well as to Elizabeth, who served at the altar, the parish musicians and singers who led the music for the Mass of Corpus Christi, and the photographer who captured the day’s celebrations.
The Mass concluded with refreshments, fellowship and photographs, providing lasting memories for the communicants and their families.
The celebration served as a joyful reminder of the parish’s commitment to nurturing the faith of its youngest members and strengthening the community in Christ.
