Marriage celebration, new mums’ group and solo retreat

Latest news of interest across the Diocese of East Anglia includes a Marriage Celebration Mass, a new Catholic Mothers Group and an opportunity for a solo retreat in Cambridge.

The Diocese of East Anglia’s annual Marriage Celebration Mass will take place on Saturday June 1, starting at 11.30am, at the Cathedral of St John the Baptist in Norwich.

All married couples and their families are welcome! Those couples celebrating significant anniversaries are invited to fill in the online Booking Form and so have their names read out during Mass, and receive a certificate. Certificates are for one year, five years and every multiple of five, until 60 years, then every individual year after 60 years).

The Mass will include a renewal of Marriage Vows for all couples, and there will also be a photographer present to take family/couple photos with the Bishop. After the Mass there will be tea, coffee and cake.  There is no charge for the day but donations are welcome.

To book a place please fill in the Booking Form at: www.rcdea.org.uk/marriage-mass-registration/

For all enquiries please contact:  Dr Antonia Braithwaite mflcoordinator@rcdea.org.uk

A brand new Catholic Mothers Group was launched at St Pancras, Ipswich, recently. At the first meeting, mums were able to meet other Catholic mums for coffee and a chat, and then join in a catechetical discussion about Lent and Passiontide before popping into church to say a few prayers and light a candle.

The second half of the meeting took the form of a craft workshop, led by Rosa Patten, where mums and children together made their own Easter tombs from clay ready to be decorated at home later. It is planned that the group will meet monthly for the five Cs: coffee, cake, chat, catechism and chaos.

The Dominican Sisters of the Convent of St Catherine of Siena are delighted to offer hospitality for private retreats and quiet breaks in their poustinia, a small (1 person) hermitage at 153-155 Huntingdon Road, Cambridge, CB3 0DH.

The poustinia is fully self-contained and en-suite, with a comfortable sofa-bed (towels and bed-linen are provided).  Previous guests have remarked on how tranquil it is, despite its proximity to Cambridge city centre, and have particularly enjoyed the lovely garden as a space in which to reflect and relax.

Visitors can access the convent chapel throughout their stay and are also most welcome to join the sisters for their times of common prayer.  St Catherine’s is situated about ten minutes’ walk from St Michael’s Priory (Blackfriars) where there is daily Mass.  The poustinia has a range of simple self-catering facilities (kettle, toaster, fridge, microwave, induction hob) and complimentary tea, coffee, milk and biscuits are available for guests to enjoy.   A donation of £35 per night to cover expenses is requested: day visits are also possible at a reduced cost.
