East Anglian Seminarian Ordained Deacon in Rome

On Wednesday 18 June, Matthew Allen, a seminarian from the Diocese of East Anglia, was ordained to the Diaconate in Rome.

The joyful ceremony took place at the Pontifical Beda College, where Matthew has spent the last few years in formation and recently completed his final exams in preparation for ordination.

Matthew was ordained by Archbishop Malcolm McMahon OP, the recently retired Archbishop of Liverpool, in a moving liturgy attended by seminary staff, fellow students, friends and guests. Representing the Diocese of East Anglia at the ordination was Fr Peter Wygnanski, Private Secretary to Bishop Peter Collins, who travelled to Rome for the occasion. Fellow East Anglian seminarian Peter Ho was also present to support his brother in Christ on this significant day.

The following day, Thursday 19 June, Fr Peter and the newly-ordained Deacon Matthew were honoured to join Archbishop Malcolm in celebrating Mass in the Baptistry Chapel of the Basilica of St Paul’s Outside the Walls. For Deacon Matthew, it was a deeply prayerful and unforgettable occasion.

As Deacon Matthew begins this new chapter in his ministry, the Diocese of East Anglia offers him heartfelt congratulations and every good wish for the journey ahead. We ask all the faithful across the Diocese to keep him in their prayers as he continues to serve God and His Church with dedication and joy.

May God bless Deacon Matthew abundantly in his ministry.
