Permanent Deacons Gather for Retreat at Walsingham

Permanent deacons from across the Diocese of East Anglia gathered at Walsingham from 13–15 March 2026 for their annual retreat, a time dedicated to prayer, reflection and fraternity.

The retreat provided a welcome opportunity for the deacons to step away from their usual pastoral responsibilities and focus on renewing their spiritual lives. Coming together in this way allowed them to deepen their commitment to their vocation of service within the Church and to the people they are called to serve.

Throughout the weekend, the deacons participated in shared prayer, quiet reflection and conversation, strengthening the bonds of fraternity that support their ministry across the diocese.

The retreat conferences were given by Canon John Udris, whose thoughtful reflections offered space for prayer and personal renewal. His words encouraged the deacons to reflect more deeply on their vocation and the mission entrusted to them within the life of the Church.

Reflecting on the experience of the retreat, Deacon Jonathan Callejo shared:

“Time spent together in prayer and fraternity renews our hearts and strengthens our call to serve Christ and His Church.”

The retreat concluded with a renewed sense of encouragement and spiritual strength, as the deacons returned to their parishes and ministries, continuing their service to God’s people throughout the Diocese of East Anglia.
