On the first Sunday of Advent 2024 a new Lectionary comes into use throughout England, Wales and Scotland. This will affect the texts of Responsorial Psalms and Gospel Acclamations that are sung at Mass.
A selection of psalms will be provided here suitable for different parts of the liturgical year, beginning with Advent and Christmas of Year C. The psalm for the first Sunday of Advent (Psalm 24: To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul) can be used as a common psalm throughout the season of Advent. Likewise, the psalm for Christmas Day Mass (Psalm 98: All the ends of the earth have seen) can be used throughout the season of Christmas.
Among the several published collections of psalms that will become available is one from former Diocesan Director of Music, Daniel Justin, which is available here – https://www.cantatedominopublications.com/ . These settings will be used frequently at St John’s Cathedral on Sundays and at diocesan occasions.
